Ford was cutting costs in the early 1970s and had realized they could replaced multiple different parts with a single part maintaining function over small design changes that most owners would not even notice. I am not very knowledgeable on concourse parts, but have read enough Mustang monthly to know that bob Perkins is about as a person there in the hobby. The turn signal switch is a great example of this as 1970 and 1971 part numbers with prefixes d0az d1az could be replaced d2az variety externally only difference was knob for emergency flashers.

This is a nos and rare 1971 part numbered d1az b.

I learned of the particular changes on turn signal switches by reading an article he wrote.

This was the right side table.

This is new in the original package. I do not see any other 1971 switches available as most are d2az13341 with either their f suffix.

Fast forward to the collector car hobby and with it very keen owners judges that noticed these items began their hunt for correct parts prized vehicles. The earlier versions were discontinued and as used for repair replaced on shelf with d2az part.
